Kathryn D. Kathryn's love for yoga grew out of an introduction to the practice from her mom during her younger years of life. She was re-introduced to yoga during college and quickly discovered she wanted to share yoga with others.

In 2007 Kathryn traveled to India to study yoga at the Yoga Vidya Gurukul Ashram where she became certified to instruct. Upon returning to Michigan, Kathryn set up yoga programs, taught low-cost, donation-based, and free classes to bring yoga to those who might not be able to afford it, and rotated teaching positions at yoga studios in the Kalamazoo, MI area. Her primary practice is rooted in traditional Hatha yoga but she has practiced and experienced many different styles including: Ashtanga, Vinyasa, Bikram, Kundalini, and Yin. Kathryn and her partner relocated to Portland in the fall of 2008 where she has continued to study, practice, and share in yoga. In addition to instructing yoga, she works as a massage therapist and nutritionist. She feels blessed to love her work and to be able to help others through doing what she loves.

Teaching Community Context

The teacher profiles preserved here include both senior faculty members who led teacher training programs and newer instructors who completed the studio's training and joined the teaching roster. This range provides documentation of how the studio cultivated teachers from beginner to senior over its operational years — a process visible in the archive that reflects the broader yoga teacher development pipeline at quality studios.

The teacher profile pages preserved in this archive document the instructors who shaped Hot Yoga For Life's character over its 12+ years of operation. Each teacher brought specific lineage, training, and personality to the studio's collective teaching identity. Some came up through the studio's own 500-hour teacher training program; others arrived with established practices from other lineages and integrated their approach into the studio's broader philosophy.
